When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his
first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s
doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to
the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.
Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. No one wants to be outside of the Glade at night. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.
Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.
Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind.
This is the first book, but be on the lookout for my review of the second novel : The Scorch Trials

I loved this book. The Maze Runner is a mash of action, sci-fi, suspense and overall great writing, which constitutes as a pretty good book to me. I'd suggest this book to anyone around thirteen or older. Yes-- even you old folks would enjoy it. It relates a bit to the Hunger Games, so if you liked those, you will love this. I found the beginning a little hard to get into, but after that, the only thing I had trouble with was putting it down. Believe me, you don't want to miss out on this book; it left my nerves jumping at every turn, and even crying at one point. Now don't let that scare you away, it was only one part. But the suspense is thrilling, and once you're in the book, it's impossible to get out.

Great review, Willow!
ReplyDeleteThe ending was a stunner right??
ReplyDeleteOn Ember and the firelight series, this is adult (the protagonists are adult) though any YA fan would probably like this too due to its paranormal element.
