Meal Planning changes my life:)

Hi brazen broads! So glad to be doing my first blog post here, and I hope its helpful to you! Not anything too fancy but something that I have found so beneficial for me and my family. SO without further ado our topic today is  tada...Meal Planning! Do you meal plan? If you do I'd love to hear how its been for you. I'd like to say that I am not Type A and I'm okay with that, but i know that lists and organization help me greatly :) but doesn't come naturally to me at all. But I had the inkling about a year and a half ago to give this meal planning thing a go and found that I loved it not only for the ease of knowing whats for dinner,  but many other awesome things have come from it..which I'll talk about in a bit but first I just give you a peek at what I do. Before I do I'll tell you there is no one right way to do it . I think I do it a bit different all the time.. keeps my creativity going:) SO some people like to do monthly planni...

Brazen Review ~ Tea With Friends, Elizabeth Knight

'Find yourself a cup of tea; the teapot is behind you.  Now tell me about hundreds of things.' ~ Saki Taking Tea - All tea - Black, Green, Oolong, or blended, which includes more than 3,000 varieties comes from an evergreen bush, Camellia sinensis.  Tea ranks as the world's second most popular beverage; water clinched the number one spot.  High in some vitamins and minerals, tea boasts a number of health benefits to those who consume more than two cups daily.  Popular herbal teas, made with herbs, flowers, roots, berries, bark, or leaves from any plant other than Camellia sinensis are not really tea.  These brewed beverages are actually called infusions or tisanes.  Who knew?  This Broad learned something (a lot of somethings) new! Knight organizes this charming book neatly.  An opening, Taking Tea, explains the who, what, where, why and how of the domestic ritual.  Then the author devotes a section to each of the twelve m...

Braised Broads ~ Quick And Easy Lunches

Easy Lunches: Big Taste, Kind To The Pocketbook... I don't like to cook lunch.  Why?  Because I'm usually cooking dinner!  I cook in steps throughout the day most often, cleaning up as I go.  You see, I hate cleaning up after a big meal.  I love cooking the big meal, but the dishes...not so much.  So, I work in manageable chunks so I never have to look at a disaster.  That would deflate my happiness bubble immensely.  (Or I cook dishes that don't make a big mess...like these lunches I'll feature today.) First up is a sandwich that ties Mediterranean flavors together deliciously!   Take a loaf of Italian bread and slice it long-wise.  Dash a generous coating of olive oil over its surface and sprinkle with kosher salt and pepper.  Slice fresh dates (I buy pitted because I don't want to deal with cutting the pits out....) in half and cover your bread.  Top with sliced chunks (or little circles if y...

Tea With Friends, Elizabeth Knight       'Next to acquiring good friends, the best acquisition is that of good books.' - Charles Caleb Colton Pg. 4 - 'Afternoon tea, or low tea, was 'invented' by Anna Maria, the seventh Duchess of Bedford (1783 - 1857), one of Queen Victoria's ladies-in-waiting.  In her day, the upper crust ate a huge breakfast, little lunch, and a very late dinner.  Every afternoon, at about five o'clock, the duchess experienced a 's...

Coffee Talk With Moíra ♣ ~ April 21, 2012

Practice Kindness This Week...Feed Your Soul! Visiting around this week, I happened across Tickles To Giggles.   Please take a few minutes to read this excellent post about Random Acts Of Kindness!  This gal took her kids on a 'Random-Acts-Of-Kindness-Lollapalooza'!  From morning to evening, this family spread smiles all across their town.  It sort of got me to thinking... What if I took my boys and we attempt only three things in a day?  How will it affect them?  How will it affect me?  Watch for my updates!  We're planning our Day Of Kindness!   - Moíra ♣

Gone by Micheal Grant

In the blink of an eye. Everyone disappears. Gone. Everyone except for the young. Teens. Middle schoolers. Toddlers. But not a single adult. No teachers, no cops, no doctors, no parents. Gone, too, are the phones, internet, and television. There is no way to get help. Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents—unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers—that grow stronger by the day. It's a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen and war is imminent. The first in a breathtaking saga about teens battling each other and their darkest selves, gone is a page-turning thriller that will make you look at the world in a whole new way.   Gone is a great novel for anyone.  It is easy to read, but keeps you riveted the whole time, wondering whats going to happen next.  I would suggest it to anyone around twelve or older, just as long as they like ...

Hi, All!  I've been absent the last two weeks, catching up on my reading.  Now I've got a new teaser to share.   Mina reviewed one of Katie MacAlister's books awhile back, and that review left me eager to search out this author.  When I saw this title, I had to give it a try.  One hilarious escapade after another, Men In Kilts is sure to elicit a giggle even from the staunchest of readers.  If you like humor sprinkled throughout your romance once in awhile, this is ...

The Death Cure by James Dashner

Thomas knows that Wicked can't be trusted, but they say the time for lies is over, that they've collected all they can from the Trials and now must rely on the Gladers, with full memories restored, to help them with their ultimate mission. It's up to the Gladers to complete the blueprint for the cure to the Flare with a final voluntary test. What Wicked doesn't know is that something's happened that no Trial or Variable could have foreseen. Thomas has remembered far more than they think. And he knows that he can't believe a word of what Wicked says. The time for lies is over. But the truth is more dangerous than Thomas could ever imagine. Will anyone survive the Death Cure? As the final book in James Dashners The Maze Runner trilogy, i was disappointed.  Not, of course in the book, but the fact that it is over. This book was almost more suspense than I could handle, but I managed.  This book, also, I don't believe I set down once.  It kept me u...

The Magnificent Ambersons, Booth Tarkington

"At the age of nine, George Amberson Minafer, the Major's one grandchild, was a princely terror..." Georgie Amberson Minafer, the spoiled only grandchild of a wealthy Midwest family, is alternately loathed and revered by nearly everyone in town. His beautiful face and privileged upbringing create an image that is difficult for people to resist, particularly people who are used to watching everything the Amberson family says and does. When Lucy Morgan arrives in town and enters the story, she too is captured by the magnificence of the Amberson family, and particularly by Georgie. But little do Georgie and Lucy know that their parents were also once in love. Isabel Amberson, Georgie's mother, was the most sought-after girl in town. Eugene Morgan, Lucy's father, was the only young man who could capture Isabel's heart. Through a youthful misunderstanding the star-crossed lovers were parted, only to be reunited years later, now with children of their own. Will ...

The Scorch Trials by James Dashner

The Scorch Trials picks up where The Maze Runner left off. The Gladers have escaped the Maze, but now they face an even more treacherous challenge on the open roads of a devastated planet.  They are told the minimal, and face the worst. And WICKED has made sure to adjust the variables and stack the odds against them. Can Thomas survive in such a violent world? The Second book in the Maze Runner series left me furious.  Not at the book or the author, but at the characters.  You know, the 'bad guys'.  Just when they thought the whole ordeal was done, it wasn't.  Now you as a reader know that-- he wouldn't write a book about nothing at all.  This surprisingly realistic situation leaves your brain thinking, and wanting more.  I honestly don't think I ever set the book down.  The Scorch Trials is book full of suspense, twists, and emotion.  I swear that if you liked the first book in the novel, then you will love this one.  James ...

Brazen Review- Discord's Apple by Carrie Vaughn

Evie Walker is going home.  Caring for her father who is dying of cancer won't be easy.  The world around her is crumbling into chaos.  She lost her mother in a suicide bombing in Seattle.  Rationing and roadblocks checkpoints are back.  Nations are rising up and starting a war.  But for Evie, her father's old house, passed down through a few generations, holds more than memories.      In the basement, someplace she really never thought much about nor cared to go, is a storeroom for magic.  Things from epics and fairy tales alike.  Glass slippers and golden fleece, but not everything from the past is there.  Some want to find a way in.    The storeroom will be hers, and protecting the treasures a first priority.  Some of the things inside are too powerful to let fall into the wrong hands.  The room, and house, are protected by strong magic, but that doesn't mean that nothing can find ...

Coffee Talk With Moíra - April 1, 2012

Broads On A Budget With all the negative prattle about the economy dancing across our television sets during the six o'clock nightly news, money, finances, and the household budget are subjects sure to crop up.  We've felt the pinch in our household.  My husband is an RN, and with the Medicare cutbacks, hospitals and nursing homes are cutting expenses.  Those expenses are cut in wages (lack of raises for two years running), benefits (our cost doubled while coverage was halved), and overtime. Add in the latest kick in the pants with rising gas prices, and you've got a household budget emergency broadcast.  'Attention homemakers, the price of meat has doubled, so your grocery budget is a joke.  Your gas tank has consumed its weekly quota of cash from running errands, and the kids are whining to go to an overpriced movie.  Mutiny is imminent.  This has been a test.  If an actual emergency had been...'  Uh...
